A period piece told by a historian with remarkable attention to detail showing in language and descriptions to everything from dress and setting.
For 80 pages, I was treated with a great back stories of the lead characters. I also got my paranormal fix in this book. However, I personally did not like our lead lady Lily Rafferty. I feel that she never really comes to terms with herself and what she had chosen to do for herself. Though I am not fond of Lily, this does not take away from the story for me. Talfryn is a wonderfully written nobleman turned vampire. Sexy, strong and kind! He brings the action to this story, trying to right a wrong that plagues him. There is nothing about him that I did not like. He really made the story for me. Dance Macabre is a well written book that will keep the pages turning.
The dancing, fighting, and romance keep the action flowing as the plot unfolds. The details of the time period alone make this a wonderful read. The first of book of the Lords Of Pendragon starts the series of right. Jul 01, Sheyna Galyan rated it it was amazing. One of Susanne's strengths is being able to immediately draw the reader into a character's inner tumult, only to leave them breathless with delicious anticipation for the first kiss.

For me it missed both marks: it had no paranormal worldbuilding a part a very weird explanation during a fight and the historical facts didn't look that good. This thread of the story focuses entirely on economics, and is well written and original. Perhaps we might see a spinoff at some point in the future, Mr. Geder is intriguing, Cithrin is cunning. Only those who survive the drop will crawl from the wreckage to finally paddle down the delta and float off in their own separate directions. Nowhere is this more apparent than the final book.
What a finale! The characters are developed consistently and intriguingly although, amazingly, they can still surprise us. But for now, that river has run its course. Some people say the best writers are the ones who, at the end of a series, leave you desperate for more. However, much rarer and arguably more special are the voices and the tales that we choose to revisit. I miss them already.
